Authorized Art Therapy Continuing Education Provider (AATCEP℠) Program
Set the standard for continuing education in art therapy. ATCB’s new Authorized Art Therapy Continuing Education Provider (AATCEP℠) Program ensures art therapists have access to trusted, high-quality learning. Discover how you can be part of it.
Why Credentials and Certifications Matter
ATCB℠ credentials and certifications benefits not only art therapy professionals but also the consumers and the general public. When individuals seek art therapy services, an ATCB℠ credential offers assurance that the therapist possesses the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience to deliver high-quality care while adhering to ethical guidelines.
Our Credentials, Certification and Pathways
Credentialing through the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB℠) establishes verified standards for education, supervised clinical practice, examination, and ethical accountability in art therapy. While voluntary, ATCB℠ credentials are widely recognized and often required by employers and state regulatory bodies.
Credentials
ATCB℠ credentials verify graduate-level education, supervised clinical experience, and professional accountability in art therapy. The Provisional Registered Art Therapist (ATR-P®) supports individuals completing post-graduate supervision, the Registered Art Therapist (ATR℠) confirms established standards have been met, and the Art Therapy Credentialed Supervisor℠ (ATCS) recognizes qualified supervisors who meet ATCB℠ requirements.
Board Certified
Board Certification represents the highest professional distinction in art therapy. The Board Certified Registered Art Therapist℠ (ATR-BC®) is awarded to Registered Art Therapists who successfully pass the national board certification examination, demonstrating advanced competency, comprehensive knowledge, and commitment to ongoing professional standards
Pathways
ATCB℠ provides structured eligibility pathways for qualified professionals to meet established credentialing standards. Reciprocity and the ATR℠ Bridge Plan recognize equivalent preparation or prior graduate-level mental health education while requiring completion of the art therapy competencies necessary for ethical and competent practice. Each pathway is designed to protect the public while maintaining the integrity of ATCB℠ credentials.
Find An Art Therapist
Certification is an important consideration when choosing your art therapist. To find an art therapist who has met the standards of certification, or to verify a credential, search our database of ATCB℠ credential holders: Provisional Registered Art Therapist (ATR-P®), Registered Art Therapists (ATR℠), Board Certified Registered Art Therapist℠ (ATR-BC®), and Art Therapy Certified Supervisors (ATCS).
