Rootd

Conquer panic attacks in the moment.

Panic attacks can be intense and happen without warning, so the last thing you’d want is for one to occur when you’re alone. Enter Rootd – an app that aims to feel like a trusted friend. When you are experiencing a panic attack, Rootd will try to help you understand why it is happening and support you through the episode.

What we love: The Rootr, a literal “big red panic button” at the bottom of the app, applies the latest techniques in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to help stop a panic attack in its tracks. When pressed, the Rootr guides you through understanding your feelings and reminds you that you can overcome this. Whether you prefer listening to a calming voice or reading affirming messages onscreen, Rootd stays with you for as long as it takes to feel grounded again.

Reflecting in the journal can help you identify subconscious triggers for anxiety and panic attacks. You can tell Rootd how you’re feeling and celebrate what you’ve accomplished.

Quick tip: Tap the Journal button to tell Rootd what’s going on with you each day. After recording your feelings, Rootd will encourage you to write down three things you’ve accomplished today, big or small. Reflecting regularly on what you’ve achieved and how you’re feeling can help you identify what may be subconsciously triggering your anxiety and panic attacks.

Meet the creator: Rootd’s Canadian founder Ania Wysocka began having panic attacks in the final year of her university degree, and wanted to better understand why this was happening. With few support options that were easily accessible or affordable at the time, Wysocka decided to conduct her own research. Seeking help through counselling and using her passion for graphic design and web development, Wysocka set to work creating an accessible digital solution that would help herself and others.
