Know your affect from your effect? Your anagrams from your acronyms? Perhaps you want to learn! Word games are the perfect way to test and boost your language knowledge – and these ones run the gamut from relaxing to challenging, so you don’t need to be a human dictionary to enjoy some wordplay here.
NYT Games
Created by The New York Times, this game offers an assortment of brilliant word and logic puzzles. Take on the traditional crossword for a daily challenge or solve the smaller version, The Mini, in a matter of minutes for a bite-size brain-teaser.
Spelling Bee, meanwhile, challenges you to make as many words as you can with seven letters; Connections tasks you with finding how four groups of words are linked; and Strands puts a fresh spin on word searches by hiding themed words in its grid. And if you haven’t yet played Wordle, which gives you six tries to guess one five-letter word each day, you’re in for a treat.

Wordscapes
Putting a twist on classic crosswords, Wordscapes challenges you to fill in each of its puzzle grids by drawing lines between a selection of letters. As you hunt for anagrams to solve each puzzle, you can also earn extra coin rewards by discovering bonus words.
With thousands of levels to explore, it’s a compelling test of your word knowledge – with the option for hints if you find yourself stuck. While the puzzles get progressively more difficult, the scenic backgrounds and lack of ticking clock mean you can relax and take your time thinking up your next great answer.

Scrabble GO
Dating all the way back to the ’30s, Scrabble is the grandparent of modern word games. The beloved board game tasks you with placing letter tiles on a virtual board to make the highest-scoring word possible – and this digital evolution gives it a modern-day makeover.
On top of the classic gameplay, Scrabble GO introduces helpful boosts, including Quick Play, which creates a random word from your tiles, the ability to swap letters and Word Spy, which suggests where to place your letters on the board. You can also choose to enjoy the game without the boosts and try other word games, too. It’s a wonderful way to rediscover an old favourite.
