The rules may be as simple as they are ruthless, but every game of PUBG Mobile is different. After parachuting into the danger zone, every player starts from square one as they forage for equipment – as well as protective gear such as helmets and armoured vests – on their quest to dominate the battlefield.

Strategy and imagination can be just as important as laser-focused aim, as you decide whether to engage your rivals from afar, improvise up-close with everyday objects such as frying pans or take the safer option of hiding yourself away. It’s important to remember, however, that you get nowhere by standing still in this game, as the playzone shrinks as each skirmish progresses. Linger too long outside the circle and your health will quickly diminish.

This doesn’t have to be a solo pursuit, though. You can play in teams to make sure someone always has your back – in-game comms are there to help you to coordinate your tactics. There are also several alternatives to the Classic game mode, including the team-v-team matches of Arena and the loot-grab of Metro Royale.

The first time you parachute down onto PUBG Mobile’s island, it can feel like everybody else is an elite fighter, while you’re still fumbling around in an effort to run, attack and hide.

Luckily, there are ways to accelerate your basic training. The game is packed with in-depth tutorials, in which you can practise and hone a wide range of gameplay essentials – from honing your aim to navigating the terrain – that will vastly improve your chances.

You can also call on the game’s virtual assistant, Ray, for a steady stream of in-game advice even when you’re deep in the midst of the action.
